ADAM'S APPLE SXSW 2026 Interview

Filmmaker and visual artist Amy Jenkins crafts a deeply personal documentary in collaboration with her son, writer Adam Sieswerda. Adam’s Apple spans over two decades of home movies, vérité footage, and poetic visual montages, the film offers a rare and intimate portrait of a family navigating change as Adam comes into his own as a transgender man.

The documentary unfolds through the dual perspectives of mother and son that captures both the milestones of gender transition and the universal rhythms of adolescence. The film’s poetic visual style reflects Jenkins’ background as a multidisciplinary artist, blending observational footage with metaphorical montages from what she describes as her “motherhood archive.” Meanwhile, Adam’s journal entries thread through the narrative as a reflective internal monologue, documenting his evolving sense of self.

Ahead of the film’s debut at the SXSW Film & TV Festival, I had the opportunity to speak with both filmmaker Amy Jenkins and her son and collaborator Adam Sieswerda. Check out our conversation below!
