The Perfection Is INSANE

The Perfection is a Netflix original movie being touted as one of the most insane films of 2019.

Charlotte Willmore is a gifted cellist attending a prestigious cello school named Bachoff. After finding out her mother is extremely ill, she leaves the school in order to look after her. Many years later, after giving up the cello, she attempts to contact the head of Bachoff, Anton. She travels to Shanghai where they are holding a competition to select a new student. After reuniting with Anton and his wife Paloma, she is introduced to Lizzie, another student, who after Charlotte left took her place and has been extremely successful ever since. They quickly hit it off but after a mysterious virus going around the country seems to infect Lizzie, they and the audience are taken for an insane adventure, one envy, revenge, or……both?

Let Me Explain:

  • How Netflix, knowingly or not, markets its films to go viral and make waves over social media.

  • The eastern cinema influence behind this film and why that may explain some of the choices made.

  • How the theme of perspective is presented, in the actual storytelling and camera choices.

  • The amount of collaboration between the two leading actresses and the behind-the-scenes of the movie.

  • The insanity of the third act and my reactions through memes.
